Mental mindset reset…

I, like most humans, have experienced situations in which I have gotten upset by something someone else has said or done, regardless of their intentions. I can’t say I have completely resolved how to not take anything personally but I have started down that path and with the help of outside knowledge I want to share it in hopes of helping someone else do the same. My marriage and family life has provided me with a well of experiences to grow from and I am grateful for all of the relationships, misunderstandings and heartaches because that is where the inspiration and motivation to heal has come from.

Have you ever paused to realize that all of our thoughts are words even though they are not directly spoken? Emotions stem from those words in our head and from our interpretations of others’ words and actions. Think about that for a moment. Now you’re thinking in words. What if…what if we took away all the words. We would just be, just experience the moment for what it is without labeling it. Now let’s put ourselves in a difficult personal situation. We are upset by something, we fear something, or maybe we have a difficult relationship with someone. Now imagine yourself in that situation with no words to describe it. No words to express your past experiences with this situation, no words to express what you think about this situation and no words to even remedy the situation. Just the situation itself as it is, no words, no interpretations, no feelings, no labels good or bad, just the situation as it is. What does that look like? Like a tree- trees have no thoughts one way or another about anything, they just simply experience life as it is. Children climbing up their branches, storms blowing their leaves and the sun shining on them all day long they don’t react one way or another. There is a taller more full tree right next to this tree but it doesn’t have any thoughts about it, it just grows in its own time in its own patch of sunlight.

This pause has been a helpful mindset reset for me. To stop all thoughts about certain situations allows me to stop, refresh and choose my way forward. By removing all labels and thoughts it becomes a blank slate, an opportunity to choose my words and thoughts. This is not only a reminder that we always have a choice but also that words can create utter destruction or absolute bliss in our minds.
